New Talking Heads

‘I was amazed at the size and the imagination of the venture.  The brilliant use of all the talents in the community the young and the old, in fact all ages. For me it was a great learning curve.

‘Storyboarding was yet another aspect of producing the NTHs for filming. Watching the two NTHs I was to storyboard and sketching ideas taught to view the pieces from another angle. I was very nervous attempting these at first, but we had two excellent workshops with more professional help and encouragement. Owning a bus pass I am very aware that you are never too old to try new things and would like to thank everyone for their patience, help and making me feel so welcome at the Tale Valley Community Theatre group. I now watch drama and programmes on TV with ‘new eyes’.
(Participant storyboarder)

‘I had not acted on stage as such for almost 30 years and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of learning and performing the monologue I had written. The input and direction from [the directors] made it a very rewarding. I learnt so much in those rehearsals and later recording the piece for DVD was another new experience for me. I had been nervous about acting, but with so much encouragement and advice I found it was quite a learning curve and gave me so much enjoyment, especially inviting my family and friends to see the finished pieces.

‘[The workshops provided an] open, safe environment to try out new skills. Good group of people, well led.’
(Participant writer/actor)

[These monologues] raise the issue of what community theatre is for. Is it for the involvement of anyone and everyone to do whatever they want regardless of ability, or is it to foster high quality theatre rising out of a community? Or perhaps it's something else….
(Participant musician)

‘[The workshops] got everyone writing. Excellent atmosphere.’
(Participant writer)

‘With a mixed bag of age and experience, everyone was accommodated in a relaxed and professional way.’
(Participant writer)

‘There were some excellent performances and very tight monologue writing. Congratulations on a very professional set of productions.’
(Audience member)

‘It was refreshing to see new writing performed. You escaped the tired repetition which typified so much theatre.’
